Prajna-paramita Hrdaya Sutram by Imee Ooi www.alyta.com Imee Ooi’s website www.immmusic.com Heart Sutra – Sanskrit-English Translated by Zuio H. Inagaki www12.canvas.ne.jp (If you find a better site/translation, please post it. Thanks) Namah sarvajnaaya -Adoration to the Omniscient! Aaryaavalokiteshvara-bodhisattvo gambhiiraayaam prajnaapaaramitaayaam caryaam caramaano vyavalokayati sma: panca skandhaah; taamshca svabhaava-shuunyaan pashyati sma. -When Holy Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva performed the deep practice in the Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom, he contemplated that there were five aggregates but observed that they were devoid of essential nature. Iha Shaariputra ruupam shuunyataa shuunyataiva ruupam, ruupaan na prithak shuunyataa, shuunyataayaa na prithag ruupam, yad ruupam saa shuunyataa, yaa shuunyataa tad ruupam. -In this case, Shaariputra, form is voidness and voidness is itself form; voidness is not different from form, and form is not different from voidness; that which is form is voidness, and that which is voidness is form. Evem eva vedanaa-samjnaa-samskaara-vijnaanaani. -So it is for perception, conception, volition and consciousness. Iha Shaariputra sarva-dharmaah shuunyataa-lakshanaa, anutpannaa, aniruddhaa, amalaa, na vimalaa, nonaa, na paripuurnaah. -In this case, Shaariputra, all things have the characteristics of voidness; they neither arise nor perish; they are neither defiled nor pure, neither deficient nor complete. Tasmaac Chaariputra

Ultimately if you are waiting for some mythical god to save you or for some mythical after-life for everything to be better than you will never reach enlightenment. Sutras such as this and the teachings of the dharma act as guides but you are ultimately responsible for your own enlightenment not some mythical god such as vishnu or jehovah.

soydeguamuchil March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

I agree,,there is only one GOD,,,,,it does not matter what is the name,,,,,,is the same…..there no such think as a sin,,,,,dont do thinks because of fear of GOD,do thinks because of love

Actually loving your “self” is what causes a lot of problems for people. The key is to acknowledge that your “self” does not actually exist. Transcend the notions of “self” of “ego” and all that will be left is Buddha.

xcrystalightx March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

Hi mosiefool – Buddhism is actually often described as non-thesitic (as in it doesn’t worship an all-mighty God). Instead, Buddha is seen as a teacher and if anything, Buddhism is a kind of teaching more than a religion. You can google phrases like “Buddhism no god” to find out more. Hope that clarifies some ideas! :)

@joshrain1
There is nothing wrong with wishing for peace and striving for it. I understand what you are saying, and agree to a point. However, selfish living and simply accepting that world peace can never happen actually causes more trouble. Accepting yourself and loving yourself is important, but that will not help others the way loving others and living in harmony with others will

crazyviking24 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

to become selfless is not to abandon buddahood but rather to achieve it. it is only when you transcend your desire for “self” or “ego” that you achieve enlightenment. that is when you can truly love and give love.

crazyviking24 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

In the Mahabaratta Krishna says to one of his followers, “Even if they do not know my name, they walk my path if only under a different name. The same Holy Spirit/Mindfullness guides us just under different names.

crazyviking24 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

I actually have to agree. If you are at war within yourself then you will be at war with other people and nations. However if you are at peace within yourself you will be at peace with others.

NAMELESSWARRi0R March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

for practical knowledge on enlightenment, read a book written by eckhart tolle called the power of “now.” from there on out its up to you. but then again “you” dont really exist…

joshrain1 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

i don’t know who guan yin is. but the very idea of becoming selfless is preventing you. just be who you are and you are that. what is wrong in being selfish? be selfish, love your self and you can then spread love. you give what you have.

MusicalAngel07 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

this is one of the most beautiful things i have heard in a very long time.. its very peaceful..

chocomint123 March 12, 2010 at 8:22 am

I think we should learn from Guan yin who is selfless and abandon own buddhahood to help all beings.
