by admin on February 5, 2010

dharmicjourney.blogspot.com “Awakening the limitless potential of your mind, achieving all peace and happiness.” This thirteen-part teaching series touches on all the vital points of Tibetan Buddhism as presented in the Gelug Lineage of the Dalai Lama’s tradition. Hosted by Richard Gere and Keanu Reeves, the series includes teachings with some of the great Tibetan lamas of our time as well as experienced Western teachers. Each video also contains personal interviews with student practitioners. A clear and accessible presentation of the Mahayana path for both beginners and experienced students, the series is an excellent resource whether it is used on its own, in conjunction with the Discovering Buddhism courses taught at FPMT centers, or with Discovering Buddhism at Home An FPMT Correspondence Program. If no one talked about spiritual reward then you would have nothing to contradict then youd have to come up with your own ideas which other people would contradict

JamesBuddha February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

you’re right, it is a baseless statement to say that ones compassion for others offers them a spiritual reward.

but, it is a fact to say that if it doesn’t, then that person is selfish…

itzahazylife February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

brainwashing is when someone follows anothers conceptual path. philosophical buddhism is merely meditation..and meditation brings about individual contentment..buddhism is not dogmatic..it merely inspires one to achieve balance and control of their own mind..it inspires the opposite of brain washing..

isnt enlightenment simply the highest level of consciousness of universal awareness an individual achieves during his/her life before they transform to their next level of existence? which depending on there level may be where their next lesson is learned..

nibbananana February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

Good point. Everyone has Buddha Nature within. Why are we seeking out?

highwind8124 February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

No. I suppose one could make the baseless faith based assumption that it is.

n4mel3ss February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

Interesting…isn’t compassion(love for others) a spiritual reward?

highwind8124 February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

And all these gurus ask in return is your volunteerism and money. That’s all.

highwind8124 February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

Well, my brain has never been filthy with drugs, so I have never needed any religion to brain wash me. And even if I was on drugs, my love for others would motivate me to get rid of it, not my selfish desire for spiritual rewards.

JamesBuddha February 5, 2010 at 8:31 am

My brain used to be filthy with drugs that nearly killed me Buddhist brainwashing saved me.
Point to me something that isnt brainwashing. Everything is brinwashing

Guru devotion can bring about enlightenment in one lifetime because it allows you to be completely selfless. It thoroughly uproots the ego and brings forth your humility and willingness to learn. Through all of your doubts, frustrations, anger and jealousy towards your guru that results, those delusions are eventually cast away and what’s left is your clear, beautiful and bright nature shining through. It’s one of the quickest ways to enlightenment, if not the quickest.

While I disagree with certain aspects of buddhism.I will admit over all that it is very benifical to the mind.
